In 2016, CHI St. Luke's Health Memorial Livingston officially broke ground on its state-of-the-art, 16,000-square-foot Emergency Department which will be located on the ground floor of the South Tower Building. It will include 27 stations, including 3 trauma rooms, 3 fast track rooms, 2 psych rooms, 10 exam rooms, 1 isolation room, 6 results-waiting stations, and adjacent radiology, ultrasound and CT rooms. There will also be designated areas for disaster response and decontamination. Construction on the $10.2 million facility will be complete in early 2017.
The hospital invested $1.6 million in superior imaging technology. Expanding the hospital’s inpatient diagnostic capabilities enables CHI St. Luke's Health Memorial to offer high-quality services and deliver cost-effective care to area patients. The Imaging Department provides MRI, CT scan, nuclear medicine scans, 4D Ultrasound, cardiac echocardiograms, fluoroscopy, bone density scanning and digital mammography.
The hospital also is equipped with an established Sleep Center which offers East Texans an easy and convenient option in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders with the latest in medical technology. From the highly-skilled team of polysomnographer technologists to the hotel-like amenities, the Sleep Center is the first of its kind in Polk County. Amenities include individually climate-controlled suites with plush queen size bedding accented with premium sheets and comforters, wood furnishings, flat screen televisions and personal bathrooms with tiled walk-in showers.
CHI St. Luke's Health Memorial's modern patient tower is unique to the Livingston community. Two floors in the tower are home to medical surgical rooms and a new intensive care unit, with room to grow in the future. The 160,000-square-foot tower was designed by local physicians and nurses to be an active part of a patient's healing process.
Additionally, the hospital has a fully integrated women's center that offers obstetrics and gynecology care, labor and delivery and digital mammography.
Since 2009, the hospital has provided the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program for sexual assault victims in Polk, San Jacinto and surrounding counties within a specialized area of the hospital to accommodate the patient in privacy and comfort. The SANE Program is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Two certified nurse examiners are certified for the care of both adult and pediatric patients, providing medical and legal exams of patients who present with forensic health care needs; maintaining chain of custody with medical and legal documentation and storage; and are responsible for testifying as expert witnesses in a court of law. These registered nurses received specialized classroom and clinical training in the evaluation and treatment of sexual assault in patients who have experienced or are experiencing violence or abuse. Every patient seen gets a complete assessment with injury documentation utilizing body maps and diagrams, as well as photography, and evidence collection as appropriate. The patient also receives resources and referrals. All mandatory healthcare professional reporting requirements are met and documented. The SANE program interfaces with medical professionals, law enforcement agencies, criminal justice, victim advocacy, and external support agencies that provide services to victims of sexual assault.
With the capacity to open 200 additional patient rooms, a highly skilled medical staff, and a talented and knowledgeable group of nurses and technicians, CHI St. Luke's Health Memorial Livingston is a premiere hospital located in one of the fastest growing retirement communities in Texas.
The modern facility evolved from humble beginnings. In 1950, Polk County leaders built a 45-bed county-owned hospital in Livingston to ensure the people of Deep East Texas had access to affordable, quality medical services. In 1994, CHI St. Luke's Health Memorial assumed ownership of the county hospital and transformed it into the state-of-the-art facility known today.
In 2014, Memorial transfered ownership to Catholic Health Initiatives, a dynamic and well-respected health care organization. In becoming part of CHI, Memorial benefits from CHI's overall scale and reach as well as the exciting new ventures that CHI St. Luke's Health is undertaking with the Baylor College of Medicine and the Texas Heart Institute in Houston.
